Our Lady ofMount Carmel

The Litany of Our Lady of Mount Carmel honours the Blessed Virgin Mary under one of her most beloved titles. Mount Carmel, in the Holy Land, has been associated with Marian devotion since the time of the prophet Elijah, and became the birthplace of the Carmelite Order in the 12th century.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is especially associated with the Brown Scapular, which tradition holds was given by Mary to St Simon Stock in 1251. The scapular is a sign of consecration to Mary and a pledge of her maternal protection, particularly at the hour of death.

This litany is especially appropriate on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (16 July), for those enrolled in the Brown Scapular, and for all who seek Mary's intercession and protection.
