Nine Days ofPrayer

A novena is a nine-day period of prayer, either private or public, to obtain special graces or to prepare for a feast. The word comes from the Latin novem, meaning nine. This form of prayer has its origins in the nine days the Apostles and Mary spent in prayer between the Ascension of Our Lord and the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Novenas may be prayed for many intentions: to seek a particular grace, to honour a saint, to prepare for a feast day, or simply to grow closer to God through sustained prayer. The commitment to pray for nine consecutive days teaches us perseverance and deepens our trust in God's providence.

Whether you are facing a difficult decision, preparing for a special occasion, or simply wishing to deepen your prayer life, we invite you to explore our collection of novenas and discover the grace that comes from this ancient practice.

Novena to the Holy Spirit
This Novena is designed to be recited from the Friday before the Feast of the Ascension to the Vigil Feast of Pentecost Sunday. However, as with all novenas, they are free to recite any time by the faithful. Novenas in honour of the Holy Ghost are among the oldest of all novenas used by Catholics. Addressed to the beloved Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light, piety, strength, and love needed by all of us.

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Sacred Heart Novena is most traditionally prayed during the nine days leading up to the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is always 19 days after Pentecost on a Friday. While this novena leads up to the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it also prepares our hearts for the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary the day after.

Novena to the Holy Spirit

The original novena of the Church. Following the example of the Apostles and Mary, who prayed for nine days from the Ascension to Pentecost, we invoke the Holy Spirit to renew our hearts with His gifts.

“They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus.”
